I loved indulging in the world of comics during my blissful childhood days. Such was the magnetic effect of that entertaining creation, that I would drown for hours in there, and would only breathe easy once I had devoured all the stories. I had that same effect of nostalgia and passion while reading the book ‘The Adventures of the JP Family’ by Radhika Acharya.
The book compiles 26 episodes from the everyday affairs of a simple family with lovable characters and presents them humorously. A cheerful comedy in the grave times to brighten up your day!

Book Cover and Title:
The book cover showcases simplicity and elegance at its best, depicting the motive of the book clearly. A delightful South-Indian couple in a comic avatar giveaway the intent of the book title and its tagline. One can get a glimpse of the JP Family and get ready to ride along an amusing journey.
The title of the book is most suitable as the book presents every day funny and interesting scenarios from the JP family. The font of the title also compliments the purpose of it. The book is a heartful dose of ‘Humor Tidbits’.
Sneak peek to the Book:
The book is presented in short stories chronicling the life and incidents from a JP family who hails from a small district in the southern state of Karnataka, India. A family of four comprising of the JP Uncle who likes to believe he is the head of the family, his homely wife who at times lets him believe that myth and their two boys who portray the typical traits of boys their age.
The stories revolve around these four characters and their everyday affairs which otherwise seem just regular, but the author sees and draws fun, humor, and glee in those simple acts, presenting them in the most alluring manner. The familiarity of the characters and the relatable incidents instantly establish a connection with the book.
The chapter headings are intriguing and generate interest, creating a good premise for the incidents. The format of narration is brilliant as it has a touch of a script to the JP series. The JP couple keeps taking turns at shining alternatively in the incidents and neither is devoid of playing the protagonist. At times, you expect the outcome and yet the leads are so interesting that you can’t keep off the eagerness to discover the consequences of the events. And then there are some unexpected twists to make you chuckle with awe. These are small episodes with precise content narrated wonderfully. The visuals are created beautifully through fluid narrative.
The stories and the characters grow on you and you are intrigued to finish the book in one go and are left craving for more. Although all the stories are equally enjoyable and fun to read, the ones that stood out for me are- ‘Jalapenos’, ‘Bisi Bele Baath’, ‘Cast your Vote’, ‘Insomnia’, ‘Leave it to me’, ‘Parent-Teacher Meeting’, ‘Recipes with the Aunt’, and ‘Time Flies at the JP House’.
Concluding Thoughts:
The easiness of the incidents, the relatable situations, and characters have been presented in humor-tinged lucid narration that keeps you captivated throughout, and you fall in love with the JP family.
The narrative is articulate and gripping, making it impossible to wipe off the constant smile and the bouts of laughter intermittently. The family keeps you hooked until the last chapter where you start craving for more glimpses from their engrossing lives. The book very well succeeds in eliciting tons of smiles and many waves of laughter from the readers, and that too from the everyday simple acts of living in a family. Well, isn’t that what we crave in these tough times!
Absolutely loved this book.
