“Did you just say
you don’t like history?
Well, that’s not how it’s
supposed to be!”
Quoting the author from her book ‘Unlocked’, I would like to say, it has been rightly pointed out.
History is often perceived as the most boring subject in a student’s life. Mainly because of the traditional way it is being taught. It is thus mostly confined to chunks of information irrelevant to one’s life.
Every occurrence has a cause and consequences, and to comprehend our present and future, we need to understand our past…and understand it well! History is highly interdisciplinary, and hence when we learn about the past, we also think about all the other aspects that intersect with those events.
History is nothing but a story which in itself is not boring, but the way it is imparted is what makes it dull.
And as History speaks for itself through the author’s book
“I have to do something
as quick as it can be,
To make you believe
that I am Oh! So lovely.”
The drab history lessons from school have been brought alive in the most captivating manner through beautiful verses in this book. A vibrant color of charm allowing people to see things with a fresh perspective!

Book Cover and Title
The Book Cover is attractive and intriguing as it shows the characters and elements frolicking out of a book, which builds momentum to what could be expected while plunging into the book. The colors of the book cover and the images are quite alluring and one couldn’t help falling in love with the book already.
The Title is aptly suited to the content of the book, as the book unlocks the buried chapters from history and archives them in a fascinating way. It also indicates how we could unlock the general façade of history being considered boring, and explore the interesting aspects of it through this enthralling read.
A Sneak peek to The Book
The book illustrates some unusual aspects of history presented in the most appealing style of poetry. The episodes are categorized under ‘The Famous and the Infamous’ and ‘Epoch-making episodes‘. Each incident and its subjects are pre-presented with an introduction that creates a premise for the subsequent poetic representation of the event.
Whereas these characters and incidents from history are quite imprinted to the memories of all, the lesser-known factors and attributes about them, presented through the lyrical depiction are surprise elements for the readers.
“Do you know that a bunch of hair
could hold the key
to a piece of history?”
- That’s a Cuban Prime Minister and his quirky side!
And there is also,
- Adolf Hitler and his childhood ordeal that framed his overall personality,
- The manuscript that saved Theodore Roosevelt,
- Genghis Khan and his strange wish,
- The unsung women warriors whose stories of freedom struggle were buried deep into the country’s history,
- Charismatic Cleopatra and the magical spell of her nose,
- A decorated war hero who died penniless,
- The inferno of politics that flared ‘The Harrowed Line’,
- How destiny favored one city and destroyed another,
- A twist to the Titanic tale,
- History repeats itself- and this time it is ‘Quarantine’
…and so many more interesting tales from the treasures of incredible history worldwide.
“Tales about noses and moustaches
and those of unparallel bravery.
I’ll talk of famous towers
a story you’ll devour,
And of speeches and gunshots
War over football matches”
Concluding thoughts
Redefining moments, both known and unknown, from the dreary chapters of history and presenting them in a compelling manner that caters to all age groups and encompasses rich literature is commendable. The information presented in the book indicates what extensive research must have been done to procure them and the creativity to present them correctly and yet interestingly.
I would request the author to continue adding these pearls of droplets in the vast ocean of history and make it a rich knowledge-base for all, and which should reach out to the new generations to look at history with a fresh attitude and enjoy it along the process.
