Book: Unloved in Love

Author: Rituparna Ghosh

Genre: Contemporary Fiction | Romance

Format: Paperback | Kindle Edition

What is it like to sail through the blisses of life and yet feel unloved? Rituparna Ghosh’s ‘Unloved in Love’ portrays the true elements of human emotions and the raptures of feeling euphoric and yet being engulfed by the strong sense of rejection simultaneously. A book that navigates through the phases of lives of its central characters and a storyline where none of them is a hero or a villain. It is the circumstances that lead each of them to make choices which only make them humane and more relatable. It is brilliantly depicted ‘story of imperfect people’ who catapult through the ins and outs of a beauteous feeling called love.

Book Cover and Title

The Book cover expresses all the elements that are essential parts of the central theme in the narrative. At the same time, it intrigues the reader to flip through those pages and find out what lies ahead.

The title of the book is very much suited to the essence of the story as it perfectly represents the complexity of human emotions that layers with the ecstasy of love and the insecurities of abandonment.

About the Author

She has had a successful career in Research and Analytics for over a decade.  Having proudly survived infertility, she now happily resides in Reading, UK, with her husband, son, and her cat.

Unloved in Love is her debut novel where she writes about regular, imperfect people who fall in love.

Sneak Peek to the Book

As the title and the tagline suggest, the story revolves around the lives of three central characters who experience the compelling feeling of love through the event called life.

Kiara Sen lives with the constant struggle to steer clear of the overbearing shadow of her mother’s expectations of her to fit in the clan of ‘winning every accolade in the book’ siblings of hers. But Kiara ‘a black spot in the tapestry of her perfect family’, is a rebel and leaves no stone unturned in shaking up her mother’s vision of a perfect life. Or was it all only to gain the attention of her distracted mother?

Nevertheless, with a secret craving for a fairytale personal life, Kiara sets off to create her space in the professional world to ‘redeem herself in her mother’s eyes’; and along the process becomes pivotal to two men in her life who are stark opposite and equably attracted to her self-doubting persona.

Kyle Wolf has his entire life laid out for him by his legacy of the family empire and lives with the continuous yearning for approval from his father.

Karan Shergill hails from a broken family and is far from believing in a true relationship. The more he tries to run from Kiara, every path treads back to his one-sided love.

The lives of the three central characters remain entangled in multiple ways as they glissade through the ups and downs of life’s roller-coaster.

Will the strong desire of seeking parental acceptance bring Kyle and Kiara close enough to bond in love, or will the single-sided love angle of Karan ignite the warmth in Kiara’s longing soul?

Will they navigate through their imperfections to move ahead and feel the love they deserve?

Read the book to find out!

The ensemble of various other characters and incidents are heartwarming, relatable, and keep the readers cascading through the various sentiments. The settings are realistic and mirror the quintessential of modern-day living. The protagonists along with their vulnerabilities successfully establish a connection with the readers as they evolve through the whims of life and their mixed emotions.

The language is articulate, rich with expressions and vocabulary, and perfectly communicates and connects the emotions as intended in the story and incidents. The progression of the narrative is interestingly presented through the perspectives of the protagonists, and this helps maintain a fascinating tempo while reading.

A story that lets you experience the layers of emotions where you laugh with the characters, love with them, cry with them, feel enraged along with them, and all the while the plethora of sentiments keep tugging at your heart! This is what I felt after reading the book ‘Unloved in Love’.
